Happy New Year - Wakey wakey - Rise and smile :)

Updated: Apr 12, 2021

2020 a fresh start, a landmark, a time to review what's important to us, to think about our relationships and goals and how we can ultimately become the best version of ourselves so that we can better contribute to the world.

Over the past few years I have been delving into the world of motivational videos, reading books on how to be more productive and I have noticed a significant change. A few people come to mind who have really influenced how I structure my life and how I work on myself.

One such person is Robin Sharma whose advice gives hope and refreshed vigour to your goals. One of the most important lessons I've learnt from Robin Sharma is the power to say no to things you don't want because if you say yes to the things you don't want you are saying no to the things you do. A scary lesson but important nonetheless. Also through his work he's taught me the importance of journaling, setting out your goals and reviewing them everyday.

Brendan Burchard is another such person. He is an incredible man who is constantly striving to better himself and influence the world, his videos are always inspiring but also have a wealth of useful tips of how to improve your life. I have read four of his books and can truly say they are some of the best resources on how to help yourself live your life to the full. One of my main takeaways from his work that has positively affected me is to ask yourself what you can be excited for and grateful for today? To enthuse your day with excitement and gratification. As important as it is to know what you are doing for the day and have routines in place to let you accomplish your goals, if you are just going through the motions than you are missing out.

I understand that sometimes in life it is hard to even will ourselves to go through the motions and that going through them can be enough of an achievement of itself. However, this is not enough. Happiness is not a state of chance or luck. It is a state which you have to constantly work on and if we want to live happier, better lives, we need to work on it everyday. It is easy to forget how far we have come, how blessed we are, even people and things we love we can come to take for granted. Before every routine, action we take, be it our exercise routine, working on our goals, tidying up, or waking up, take a moment and ask yourself, 'why this is important to you?' Remind yourself of what you will achieve by doing this activity. Think about spreading joy and excitement in to the task, don't just go through the motions really try to experience the sensations of the activity and be present. Remind yourself to live in the moment and if you are feeling dazed and really fatigued, have some water, stretch a little, smile, wiggle your toes (works your blood will rush to your head and you'll feel more present) and blow some bubbles (seriously it's always fun)

Then when the day is done ask yourself, 'what can I be grateful for?','What have I achieved and learned and what am I looking forward to tomorrow?' (even write it out so that it really cements it in your mind) If we try and add just one of these steps into our lives we will feel more gratified and happy. So in 2020 let's make this a year where we become more conscious in all we do and fuel it with love, gratification and excitement so that we build our life day by day into a life well lived.

Wishing you as ever all the best in everything you strive for and to live your best year yet!

Lots of love

Naomi Leila :)
