Often when we feel scared of doing something or want to do something a bit out of our comfort zones, the phrase 'YOLO' (you only live once) is thrown out there. Why are we so accustomed to saying this, to such an extent that some people truly believe that is in fact, fact? Why do we feel this need to make out like this is true?
One reason people seem to like this idea is because they feel freer believing that their actions may not have consequences. But even taking societal laws and social consequences out of the mix, there is no way of knowing that we only live once. There is no way of knowing what on Earth comes next after this life. No-one has ever given humanity sufficient enough proof for us to say undeniably that 100% such and such happens after we pass.
The reason we say, we have faith in religion or ideas or people is because we don't know for certain scientifically or factually that what we have faith in is real but we believe in our hearts that it is. There is no proof but we have faith in certain ideals because they align with us. That is what it mean to have faith. To support something because it feels right and true and logical to you. It is more than ok to have faith in whatever feels right to you. Some things will naturally make more sense to you than others, it is up to you to discover what feels most right to you.
I believe that it is important to educate ourselves in as much as we can to see what truly aligns with us. The more we educate ourselves the more we can either strengthen our own faith or learn to find something that does make sense to us.
Life is messy and hard sometimes. Faith is a beautiful thing, that can give you hope to hold onto when things get rough. So whatever it is you have faith in, be it a relationship, an ideal or a religion, remember that it is something to cherish but that nothing in this life is 100% certain. Be open to learn and to have respect for other people because what we do know for certain is that we have here and now. And we can make it a more pleasant experience if we stay kind and respectful to each other.
